[…] La neblina las rodea y las oxidan y ya piensan en petrificar […]- […]The fog surrounds the people and it oxidized them […]– is a metaphor foreshadowing difficult times ahead resulting from economic problems associated with residing in Chile.

This theme refers directly to the paralysis of industry and consequential unemployment that Chile experienced throughout the 80s under the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

The radical economic and social changes of the new government resulted in the closure of many factories and therefore layoffs of thousands of workers.

The privatization of industry significantly increased rates of unemployment which affected blue-collar workers most. People went so far as to petition to never return to work, as the same song states.

Los Prisioneros call for a change in the economic and political situation of Chile. They are asking to put the industries to function, so people can come back to work.

Están paradas esperando a las manos que decidan hacer andarThey stand waiting for the hands that decide what goes on
La neblina las rodea y las oxida y ya piensan en petrificarThe fog surrounds and oxidizes them and they begin to petrify
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
Cuando vino la miseria las echaronWhen the misery came, they cast them off
Les dijeron que no vuelvan másand told them not to return
Los obreros no se fueron se escondieronThe [industrial] workers did not leave,
Merodean por nuestra ciudadthey hid prowling our city
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
Voy a llegar a la gran máquinaI will arrive to the big machine,
Todo es oscuridaddarkness surrounds
Si agacho un poco la cabezaif I lower my head a little
Nadie me descubriráno one will discover me
Yo me acuerdo que los fierros que ocupabanI accorded with the resounding irons
Y chocaban en el patio de la escuelaand they crashed onto the schoolyard
Con cada ritmo que marcaban dirigían el latidoWith each rhythm they directed
De nuestro propio corazónthe heartbeat of own heart.
Y me arrastro por el muro de cementoAnd I drag myself on the humid cement
Y en mi cabeza se repite mil lamentosand in my head a thousand cries repeat
De cuando vino la miseria los echaron y dijeronWhen the misery came they threw us out
Que no vuelvan másand they said do not return
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
Voy a llegar a la gran máquinaI will arrive to the big machine,
Todo es oscuridaddarkness surrounds
Si agacho un poco la cabezaif I lower my head a little
Nadie me descubriráno one will discover me
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
Las industrias, muevan las industriasThe industries, move the industries
